Patient website in gastroenterology

More and more people are searching for information, advice, tips, and like-minded people online. What counts? Content, quality, user guidance and trust are important. For its implementation of a patient website in gastroenterology, the pharmaceutical company Shire looked to the competency and industry experience of TWT Digital Health.

We know what is important in patient communication. Some of the characteristics indispensable for health portals include the use of citations and qualified opinions of doctors and experts. References to other relevant sources of information and patient diaries provide added value, as does the quick and easy exchange of information among users. In addition, usability and comprehensible content play important roles. You can never lose sight of your target audience.

E-health is no longer a trend

The broad target group – those that seek answers to their health questions online – can be reached by the use of appropriate portals. According to the "Online Health 2013" study conducted by the PEW Research Center, 60% of German residents use the Internet to inform themselves about illnesses, drugs, nutrition, healthcare provision and mental well-being – and the numbers are increasing all the time. The pharmaceutical company Shire has recognized this potential and together with us developed a patient website, which sets a new benchmark. The mobile market is also experiencing a boom when it comes to healthcare. In the last 12 months, approximately 5 billion apps in the category "Health" have been downloaded. These include nutrition, sport and fitness, as well as medical apps (Sport Study 2013).

Shire is a global supplier of specialized medicinal products and has been active in the German pharmaceutical market for over 10 years. The company develops innovative drugs that allow doctors to provide appropriate treatment options, even for challenging and difficult medical cases. In addition, Shire provides comprehensive information and support services for doctors, patients, relatives and carers.

Patient websites provide professional information and assistance

The patient platform is aimed primarily at people who suffer from chronic obstipation. It provides extensive information, explanations, advice and tips on digestion and constipation. A patient diary is a special service that assists treatment and is customized to the personal requirements of each patient.
Alongside expert knowledge and tips for relatives and friends, the website contains information brochures that can be downloaded. This is how patient communication works!
